OUTLINE:

  • DAVID PRESENTS SOLOMON TO ISRAEL AS THEIR NEXT KING AND TEMPLE BUILDER (28:1-8):

    • David gathered all the officers, commanders, stewards, and the mighty men of his kingdom in Jerusalem.

    • David told his officials how he originally intended to build the Temple, but the Lord forbid him because he was a man of war.

    • He told them that God had appointed his son Solomon to be the next king, and that he would be the one to build the Temple.

    • David commanded his officials to honor God’s decision and keep God’s laws, so that their children would inherit a blessed nation.

  • DAVID CHARGES SOLOMON TO BUILD THE TEMPLE (28:9-21):

    • After speaking to his officials, David turned to speak with Solomon.

    • He encouraged him to serve God with his whole heart and with a willing mind.

    • He told him to set to work building the Temple, because God had specifically chosen him for the job.

    • David gave Solomon the detailed plans he had received from the Lord.

    • The plans included specifics for the construction of almost every item related to the Temple, including the treasuries, chambers, interior rooms, court yards, vessels, and holy items.

    • The plans also included details about the divisions of the priests and Levites, and how worship was to be done in the Temple.

    • David concluded by encouraging his son. He told him the Lord was with him and all the people would support him as he undertook this momentous project.

EXPLANATION:

  • The best inheritance you can leave your children isn’t money, it’s not property, it’s a home grounded in the law of God.

  • The best country you can leave for your children is not one with a booming economy, its one that respects the Creator.

  • David knew this when he encouraged his officials to “observe and seek out all the commandments of the Lord” (28:8).

  • You don’t have to be rich or successful in earthly things to leave a good inheritance, but you do need to be dedicated and intentional about leading your family to God.
