OUTLINE:

  • THE ACTS OF AHASUERUS AND MORDECAI (10:1-3):

    • The last chapter of Esther is a very short piece of text informing the reader where they can read more about the deeds of King Ahasuerus and Mordecai, his second-in-command.

    • All the acts of Ahasuerus and Mordecai were written in a book called the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia.

    • Mordecai spent the rest of his days in high honor at the king’s side.

    • He was an advocate for the Jews and was loved by his people.

APPLICATION

  • The Book of Esther gives us the chance to sit back and admire the way God orders the world.

  • The Book of Esther is significant because it shows us that God is in the palaces, government buildings, and homes of the most influential people in the world, and He is also in the villages, markets, and homes of every average person.

  • During the days of Esther, Ahasuerus was almost without debate the most powerful, significant, and influential man on the earth, yet he wasn’t even in charge of his own household, God was!

  • Esther was a captive Jew on the opposite side of the spectrum from the king of Persia, yet God was no less involved in her life than in the king’s.

  • God brought together two extremely different people to accomplish what He wanted.

  • Social barriers, economic barriers, power barriers, ethnic barriers, none of them matter to God. He does what He wants, when He wants, with whatever people He wants.

  • I think it’s accurate to say, and I believe the spectrum we see in Esther backs this up, that God is just as involved and interested in your life as He is in the life of a president or king or queen.

  • Someone might argue, “But God was only interested in Esther because He was going to elevate her to be a queen.”

  • But have they not read that God intends to take His faithful ones and elevate them to thrones in Heaven (2 Tim 2:12, Rev 3:21, Rom 8:17)?

  • If God was involved in the life of a lowly woman because He intended to put her on an earthly throne, how much more interested must He be in the lives of the individuals who will one day reign with Him in Heaven.
