Matthew 16 - In this chapter, the Pharisees and Sadducees asked Jesus to show them a sign. Jesus told them they would only receive the sign of the prophet Jonah. Later, Jesus confessed that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God. Then Jesus told His followers they must take up their cross and follow Him.

Matthew 15 - In chapter 15, Jesus confronted the Pharisees and scribes over their devotion to tradition and disregard for God’s commands. In the region of Tyre and Sidon, Jesus healed the daughter of a Canaanite woman. At the end of the chapter, Jesus fed 4,000 men with 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish.

Matthew 14 - John the Baptist is killed by Herod Antipas for condemning his marriage to Herodias. Jesus feeds the 5,000 before walking on water to meet the Apostles on the Sea of Galilee.

Matthew 13 - Jesus taught His disciples in parables: (1) The parable of the sower, (2) the parable of the weeds and the wheat, (3) the parable of the mustard seed, (4) the parable of the hidden treasure, (5) the parable of the pearl of great price, (6) the parable of the net. The chapter closes with Jesus preaching in Nazareth and being rejected by His countrymen.

Matthew 12 - Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. In chapter 12, Jesus talked about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, healed a man with a withered hand, talked about the sign of Jonah, and was visited by his mother and brothers.

Matthew 11 - John the Baptist sends messengers to Jesus to ask Him if He is the Christ. Jesus spoke to the people about John’s ministry and commended John for his service to God. Jesus then condemns unrepentant cities who resisted His teaching, and invited the weary to come to Him for rest.

Matthew 10 - Chapter 10 begins with a list of the 12 Apostles. Jesus then sends the Apostles out into the towns and villages to preach about the Kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew 9 - Jesus healed a paralyzed man, called Matthew (Levi) to be a disciple, answered a question about fasting, raised a ruler’s daughter from the dead, healed a woman with an issue of blood, gave sight to two blind men, and opened the mouth of a man who couldn’t speak.

Matthew 8 - Jesus healed a man of leprosy and then healed a centurion’s servant. He warned His listeners about counting the cost of being one of His disciples. Afterwards, Jesus calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee and helped two demon possessed men in the country of the Gadarenes.

Matthew 7 - The conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus talked about judging others, prayer, the golden rule, bearing good fruit, and building your house on rock instead of sand.

Matthew 6 - Jesus continues the Sermon on the Mount and discusses giving to the needy, the Lord’s prayer (Model Prayer), fasting, laying up treasure in Heaven, and putting the Kingdom of God first.

Matthew 5 - Jesus goes up on a mountain and begins preaching the “Sermon on the Mount.” He begins with the Beatitudes, discusses salt and light, His relationship to the Law of Moses, anger, lust, divorce, swearing, turning the other cheek, and loving your enemies.

Matthew 4 - Jesus is tempted by the Devil in the wilderness. Afterwards, He moves to Capernaum and begins His ministry. At the Sea of Galilee, Jesus called His first Apostles: Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Jesus preached the gospel of the Kingdom and healed many sick people in Galilee.

At the end of the chapter, Jesus visits John at the Jordan river and is baptized by Him. After Jesus’ baptism, the Holy Spirit descends in the form of a dove and God’s voice from Heaven confirms Jesus as His Beloved Son.

Matthew 2 - The wise men visit Jesus while Herod tries to kill Him. To escape Herod, Joseph, Mary, and Jesus flee to Egypt. They remain in Egypt until Herod’s death, at which point they move back to Nazareth.
