Something about the ocean just draws my heart closer to God. I was reading Psalm 119:130 and the Psalmist writes:
“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”
And I immediately thought of snorkeling in the ocean. This may seem like a weird comparison to you, but let me explain. When you stand at the edge of the ocean, it is absolutely stunning. But it is an entirely different story when you dive in. A whole new world unfolds. There are millions of fish with incredible, unique designs. And the deeper you go, more wondrous treasures begin to present themselves as God’s creation continues unfolding before your eyes. I swim in awe, gazing at the artistic ability of my Father. It reminds me of this verse because this is how I feel about Bible study. When we first start, it is like standing at the edge of the ocean. Don’t get me wrong, it is beautiful there on the edge.
There are so many incredible treasures to glean from a basic understanding of the Bible. But Sisters, when you begin to dive deeper, that it when the true beauty unfolds. Incredible wisdom and insight for living in this world is found within those pages. And the beauty of this? It is available to even the simple minded, like little old me. I don’t have to be a genius, important, well known, extremely intelligent, or have 1 million followers for God’s word to unfold and blow me away daily.
I get to be simple with an open heart, open mind, and open Bible. I can approach God’s word and dive in with confidence, expecting Him to provide understanding. And so can you.
Proverbs 2: 5 “if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”
