The Serpent and I - Genesis 3 - Praying Through the Bible

Gen 3:4-5  But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Gen 3:15  I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

LORD,

- Don't let me read the story of Adam and Eve and the Serpent and not see myself.

- Don't let this be a story about distant and unrelatable characters

- Because I've eaten that same fruit

- Traded eternal blessings and fellowship with You for silly temporal pleasures

- I've traded in the Creator to play in the dust

- I've believed the serpent's lie that told me that what this world has to offer is more satisfying than the presence of God

- Satan questioned Your word about what was really best for Your creation

- He told us to make ourselves gods

- And I've been tricked by that offer

- The serpent promised that we would "not surely die"

- But believing him killed me spiritually

- And I had to approach You just a guilty as Adam and Eve when You found them in the garden

- It is my sin that makes the world a hard place to live

- I have hurt others by the influence of my ungodliness

- I've broken people's hearts by my unfaithfulness

- Others have had to work hard to make up for my lack of responsibility

- I've taken the hand of my companions and led them down a godless path of sin

- I have increased the pain of a suffering world

- And so, I was guilty, just like You said I was

- I don't deny it, in fact, I've got the evidence to prove it

- But now I can approach you as Your son

- Speak to You whenever I want

- Knowing that You are patiently listening

- Listening to my thanks, my pleas, my requests for others

- The serpent's head is crushed

- The Child of the virgin has defeated my accuser

- I am a child of Yours because You rescued me from myself

- From own decisions that would have destroyed me

- Thank you that Genesis 3 isn't the end of my story

- Thank you that Genesis 3 is only the beginning!

Through Your Son and the "seed" of the woman,
